Southewest Athletic Conference Tournament Preview

Southwest Conference Athletic Tournament (ranked 33rd [last] by kenpom)

March 9-12

Hosted by: The Special Events Center in Garland, Texas.

Sponsored by: Farmer’s Insurance. But that’s not all. The official emceee of the event is “the fully amazing Boris Kodjoe.” The website reads “come for the hoops, stay for it all,” and then reads: “cheerleaders, bands, step show, comedy show, entertainment, action, family fun, college expo.” Lot of entertainment. They also call the entire week “five of the best days of your life.”

Tickets: $125 for all them, and all the entertainment.

The Bracket;

Wednesday March 9: #1 Texas Southern v. #8 Arkansas Pine Bluff

#4 Alabama State v. #5 Alabama A&M

#2 Jackson State v. #7 Prairie View A&M

#3 Mississippi Valley State v. #6 Grambling

Friday March 11: Semis

Saturday March 12: Finals

The Favorite: The tournament only invites the top 8 teams (sorry Alcorn State and Southern), and there are no byes to reward Texas Southern for their 16-2 conference record. Alcorn State plays the most uptempo game in the nation. UNfortuntately, it only translated into 4 wins, and they will not be joining everyone else in Garland, Texas. Miss Valley State plays the eighth fastest though, so keep an eye on that. I’m going to take Jackson State as the favorite though. Whoever wins this game will most likely have to play in one of the #16 seed play-in games.

Trivia: The information above should be enough to wet your appetite for this competition. There are five days of action: "Get Warmed Up," "Education Day," "Panhellenic Day," "Military day," and "Super Saturday."
